The Irish actress (35) plays Claire Beauchamp, a nurse in WWII who is transported back in time to the 18th century in the series.

Although the Emmy nominations aren’t due to be announced until July 16, Outlander is being hotly tipped by critics and now Caitriona’s castmate Sam Heughan has said he believes the Monaghan woman’s performance is worthy of a gong.

“Caitriona is terrific. She has so much stamina and she carries the show,” he said. “She has to show up every day and just give her best.”
The actor, who plays male lead Jamie Fraser in the series, admitted that some of his favourite moments during filming were the intense scenes he shot with Caitriona.
“There’s some great scenes between myself and Caitriona’s character Claire, especially the one by the river in Episode 10 where it’s the first time you get to see us really going at each other and I enjoy that, it’s really fun to do,” he told entertainment site TheWrap.
While Sam has high praise for the former Victoria’s Secret model, it seems the feeling is mutual between the pair.
Caitriona, who was nominated for the Rising Star award at this year’s IFTAs, recently said that she immediately clicked with the Scottish actor when they first met.

“It was quite instantaneous,” the actress said.
“When I first met Sam at our chemistry test … he was just the nicest guy.
“He just put me at ease, and I was a little nervous. He’s just that kind of solid, grounded guy.”
The show is famous for its raunchy scenes, but Caitriona assured she had no issue filming the steamy clips because she’s good friends with her co-stars.
“I think it’s because I trust my co-stars so much,” she told Variety. “I think Sam, Tobias [Menzies] and I have just built up such great friendships that it makes it very easy when it comes to those scenes.
“As awkward and as challenging as the [love scenes] are, I think when you have people there that you trust, then it just makes them easier,” she said.
