While answering questions on Facebook, Diana Gabaldon comments about what may be used in season eight to end the show from her final book of Outlander.
"Yes, it _will_ happen. But let me tell you something; it wouldn't matter if Book Ten had been completely written and released last year. The show has TEN episodes for Season Eight. Period, the end, no further show.
They haven't yet used any material (or minimal) from WRITTEN IN MY OWN HEART'S BLOOD or GO TELL THE BEES THAT I AM GONE. Plus what _is_ written of Book Ten (I've told them what might be helpful to them in terms of the ending (the book does _have_ an ending), but that doesn't mean they'll use it.
While there's always judgement as to what they can and can't use in the show (look at all the screaming every time a new season comes out and _doesn't_ have "X" scene, lines, whatever that people wanted to see), just imagine having to choose from (roughly) 3000 pages of crammed Story, the events you can use to make something at least coherent out of.
So you'll see some of the big moments from the previous books, plus some material from Book Ten--but you're sure not getting the full story of Book Ten, nor would you ever".
That's a wrap
