Article by Matt Carter - Outlander’s Season 2 Spoilers: Meet Black Jack Randall’s brother!
As we saw with Frank Randall during the beginning of “Outlander” season 1, having that name does not exactly necessitate that you are going to be a terrible person. Think of Black Jack just as an isolated villain in the family, and one of the most evil people that we’ve ever seen on television … at least for now. We’re not speaking as someone who has a supreme knowledge of what lies ahead in the book series.
As first reported by TheWrap, the Starz series has brought on board Laurence Dobiesz (“Great Expectations,” “The Bill”) as Alex Randall, the younger brother of Jack who is seemingly different from him in just about every way. While his brother has a penchant for being nasty and violent, Alex is more mild-mannered, and someone who cares for other people. Isn’t that a nice twist?
Alex serves as a curate for the Duke of Sandringham, which suggests to us that we may not be leaving this season 1 world completely behind in every way, just because Jamie and Claire have both moved on to France.
There have been a flurry of season 2 castings over the past couple of weeks, and the real takeaway from this is largely just that the series has to rebuild much of its cast given the new setting. This is a world that is constantly going to be changing, so while we have Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan still instilled as the leads on the series, we’ll have to wait and see how everything else ultimately comes together when season 2 airs next year.
